Movement Music presents- GMO

Who influenced you coming up?

in rap I grew up listening to LL Cool J, Salt N Pepper, Rakim, EPMD, Big Daddy Kane, DJ Quik,Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Dre, Nas Red Man, and Busta Rhymes. Those are the main artists that influenced me coming up. Some of the artists that influence me today are people like BOB, 50 Cent and Kanye West. There are a lot of new cats i watch and learn from too like Wiz Khalifa, Drake and Kendrick Lamar. I still get influenced by snoop. I also produce so I listen to Timbaland a lot to see what he's up to on the beats.

What kind of beats do you look do you like to rap to?

Like I said before I'm also a producer so I make some of my own beats. I mainly like uptempo beats because the type of MC that likes to control the crowd and get people dancing when I do shows, and I need uptempo beats for that.

How long have you been rapping for?

I've been rapping seriously for 12 years

  Who's in my I-Pod now?

Actually I've been listening to a lot of underground cats like The Tu and Swindo in AZ and Childish in Korea. I have a lot of 50 cent because that dude puts out mixtapes like crazy. I am a big 50 fan a lot of cats didn't stick around but I like the direction he's been going in. I also have a big mix of everything, the producer in me likes to listen to a variety of genres from rock to rap to dance. I have cold play in my playlist right now and that new BOB album. Yo, I got that last E-40 joint that had like 60 songs on it and most of them were good. I'm also a huge E-40 fan, I buy everything he puts out. I love music man!

Where are you from?

I grew up all over LA but lived most of my life in Hawthorne the city just south of Inglewood,California.

How has your location effected your style?

I'm in the military so I get to travel a lot which helps to expand my horizons. Right now I'm in Korea and they seem to really like my uptempo and west coast sounding tracks. I think the way my location has effected my sound is that it gives me more to talk about. For example, I made a song called "Gone Off Soju" which talks about an alcoholic drink made here in Korea and my experience with it. That song helps me connect with the Korean audience because all Koreans know about soju.

What do you think of rap music today?

I think it's good, since I get to travel a lot and get to see the impact rap has had on the world, and what I notice is people world wide like some forms of rap more then others. Me personally I like where rap is today, you have rappers like Lupe and BOB that took it back to the days of lyrics but they also come with diversity. Then you have the party rap like Rick Ross and Travis Porter, I would rather hear them at the club them Lupe. I cant dance with a chick to Lupe. There is a style of rap for different settings. I'm glad rap has passed the hard core and gangsta phase where that was the only image accepted. There was a time where if you didn't have a thug image with street cred you wouldn't be accepted, but now I think the emphasis is more on the quality of music and there's something out there for everybody.

How would you explain your style and sound?

If I had to choose one word to describe my style and sound I would have to use Loco. My personality is a bit loco and my music reflects that. I like to dance so I make music people can dance to. I have a foot fetish so I rap about it sometimes. I also like lyrics and word play so I incorporate that in my music as well. Sometimes I want to get grimy with a boom bap beat then sometimes I'll be on some Loco Swag shit. I consider my self an artist not just a rapper because I don't like to be stuck in a box, I experiment with my music a lot and the results tend to be loco.

 Any projects coming up?

I was just featured on Seoul Streets Vol 1 presented by Iconz Media. I'm about to be on Seoul Streetz Vol 2. I will also be on the next It Is What It Is mixtape hosted by Hugo The Boss Promotions. Then later this year I'm releasing the Mr. Clean EP on ITunes and all the other mp3 stores

How can people get at you and check out your music?

My website is under construction but people can hear me at GMO'S MUSIC follow me at GMO ON TWITTER and facebook at LOCO SQUAD .

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

I see myself producing and managing artists and doing things bosses do.I won't be satisfied with just being an artist forever.

 Anything else you wanna add?

Yea thanks for having me on the Real Movement Blog and for the rest of the world I hope you enjoy my music. Go Loco!
