Rappers reinventing themselves

Ok folks, Let's get straight to it....LIL'KIM DON'T MAKE ANYMORE DISS SONGS, NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR IT.  Ok, maybe her die hrd fans do want to hear it, but let's face it, that isn't a relevant number anymore.  I have love for Lil' Kim and I support her theory that her image (I don't like the world swager) was jacked by Ms. Manaj, but Lil' Kim is not a battle rapper, therefore we don't want to hear her battle.

Now to tie this in with the tittle of this article, Lil' Kim is an established, trend setting, icon in the game (dare I say).  Her legacy was set by being raunchy, extremely sexual, almost female pimpish, NOW YOU WANT US TO BELIEVE YOU AS A BATTLE RAPPER? You never had one battle in your long lasting career, so you can't switch lanes now Kim.  Rappers who just came out, like Manaj, can do that and be more credible because nothing about her is set in stone yet, basically she is still trying to figure out what her legacy will be if any, but Kim already has one.

Since this article is about rappers reinventing themselves (after establishing themselves), allow me to speak on some other rappers who's fans might question their change of direction...heeeeeeeeeeere we go.....

Redman! Why, Why, Why!? You are Mr. Muddy Waters, not Mr. Autotune.  I don't know if your just experimenting or what, but my question is, why do it now? You have always been known for your grittiness and your "supaman lova" antics, now you want to introduce the world to Reggie Noble...Ain't y'all the same people? I have not heard all of your mixtape, but my homeboy who loves REDMAN like I do has it, and he was left disappointed and utterly confused with all the autotune and commercial reaches on it. If your single is any indication of the rest of the music...then I might just have to pass.

Redman - Fly found on Hip-Hop

Now on to the GREAT, the EXTRAORDINARY, MC that they call Hammer (can't touch this). Now for you I will make it short, and sweet. YOUR AN EMCEE THAT MADE DANCE SONGS, why do you old artist want to battle now.....you are not believable Hammer! I'm not gonna say whether of not you should still rap (probably not) but you DEFINITELY should not make battle songs against Jay Z, or anybody else for that matter. Your remix was A LITTLE better, but that's because you were not rapping on it.

I agree with ya'll with the whole Kym and MC hammer trying to beaf thing they need to stop. Kym lashed out before against 50 on her album she put out right before she went to jail and that was actually tight. She needs to stay in her lane though. I'm a huge Kym fan but she needs to realize no queen reigns forever, there is a new queen in town. Nicki is a spitter all gimmicks aside she can actually spit and Kym can't hang with her on a battle in my opinion . MC hammer, say no more just chill homie. As far as Red Man I'm a huge fan of his too and I don't think it's nothing wrong with experimentation.. I think it's unfair to expect a artist to stick to the same shit all the time. I like hamburgers but I don't wanna eat that shit everyday so I'ma switch it up and eat some fish and chicken. Let dude expand his range. I hope Red Man is able to go more commercial, commercial is good....it makes money.

Nice post Dee. With the Kim ordeal, I totally feel it's needed for Kim to let it be known she was the original black "Barbie". Image is very important in Hip Hop, it's basically your brand. I support Nicki as well--as she is out here doing her thing. However, her album was wayyyy more "softer" compared to her mixtapes and I feel every artists first album is their "hardest" album, or at least it should be. Plus we need more females spittin.. more-less, Nicki is the new young leader of femcees but bottomline Kim is the original Black Barbie, and I don't feel as though she is out of line by lettin' that be known.

In the late 90's Redman was 1ne of my fav artists to listen to. The autotune ordeal is not my vibe... but I do respect artists that evolve and try new things. If I hear like 3-4 more Reggie tracks like this... then there is mos def a problem--he'd be "reaching" then.

And Hammer--this diss was just not needed. You did blow 30 mill... no need to cry about it. However, the early contributions Hammer made to Hip Hop will always be remembered. 1ne of the first to mention GOD on the radio within Hip Hop--"We got to pray just to make it today". But I never understood how ppl can call Jigga a devil worshipper. "With the weight of the world on my shoulder/that's why they call me Hova/I'm far from being GOD, but I work God-damn hard!"... Breathe easy please. 1ne

@Ir.....Thanx brotha. I feel Kim is the original, and has every right to make that known. I feel she might be more effective if she just beat nikki at her own game, and stick to what she is known for. Hammer will be remembered....but it won't be for battling battling Jay. Redman is one of my favorites....adn he is that for BEING HIMSELF, and I think all his fans like him for that a reason, this new stuff is not what we know and love him for.

Kym can let it be known she was original but her diss track was wack!!!! She need to do better than that if she gonna diss.

Redman was very well respected for being him, this new song is still him being him he's just trying new things, gotta step out of the box sometimes and expand your horizons.
